About Us: Washington Vegetable is one of the two businesses on The SF Market that actually predates the market itself. Italian produce merchants had been gathering in the Golden Gateway district of San Francisco pre-1900s and during the areas redevelopment in the 1960s The SF Market was created to house the displaced businesses. Washington Vegetable, which was originally on Washington Street, was one of the businesses that moved over. Washington Produce is known for its high-quality produce, and for being one of the premier dealers of greens. The company has remained innovative through the years, like embracing organics early on. Washington Vegetable is owned by Jack Pizza, the grandson of John Pizza, the company’s founder. John’s great-grandson Mike recently started working in 2019.
