MERCHANT NEWS AND RESOURCES
The SF Market’s mission is to connect and grow the region’s food and agriculture community from our wholesale market in the heart of San Francisco. This mission is achievable only in a hand-in-hand partnership with you, our dedicated and hard-working merchants. We applaud your fortitude, generational longevity, late nights/early mornings, and constant desire to improve. Your produce feeds the Bay Area and helps support San Francisco as a culinary destination. We are deeply vested in your business success.
The SF Market is unique in its nonprofit structure, community partnership, City involvement, and other complexities. We strive to continue improving communications to bring everyone along as changes unfold and opportunities arise.
10 Million Pound Celebration
On October 24th we celebration 10 Million Pounds of fresh produce recovered and donated by our Food Recovery Program. Mayor Lurie, Senator Wiener, and other city and state leaders joined us to honor the people and programs who make this work possible day in and day out. We are grateful for this special opportunity to celebrate all of our Merchants’ essential contributions to food recovery. A special thank you to the Earl’s team, who hosted the event in their space and were incredible partners throughout the planning process, and especially to Mabel Herrick, who spoke in the program on behalf of the merchants.

Market tours
On Wednesday October 22nd we hosted members of C40 Cities for a very special tour of The Market focused on Food Recovery. The group consisted of representatives from mayors’ staffs from across the country who are focused on food insecurity and climate policy. We thank Mike Pizza of Washington Vegetable and Tom Wheeler of S&L for speaking with them about our merchant’s role in our Food Recovery Program.
Our team strives to bring as many stakeholders and officials to the Market as possible to learn about our operations and programs, raise our profile, and deepen relationships. Thanks to the Merchants who take time out of their busy mornings to talk to our visitors!
20th Anniversary
We congratulate our friends at Fresh Green for celebrating 20 years on The SF Market! Founded by Steve Chen in 2005, Fresh Green has grown into one of the leading distributors of Asian produce and greens in the Bay Area over the past two decades. Fresh Green is a key connector for San Francisco’s Chinatown and other districts serving primarily Asian populations, providing access to both domestically-grown and imported Asian produce.
In recognition of their 20th Anniversary they received A Certificate of Honor from the City and County of San Francisco. We are honored to have them as valued members of The SF Market family!
