MAKE AN IMPACT AS OUR PHILANTHROPIC PARTNER
We are dedicated to serving as a hub for our regional food system and giving local businesses a place to distribute fresh produce to Bay Area food businesses while reducing food insecurity in an environment committed to zero waste.
The SF Market is a nonprofit social enterprise focused on doing good to serve our community and those in need by giving back through our Food Recovery Program and other community partnerships. As a nonprofit, we offer a way for you to achieve your goals within the Bayview Hunters Point community. By investing in The SF Market through a charitable investment or grant, we can work together to further positively impact the Bay Area’s food system and reduce food insecurity and waste.
The SF Market directly supports jobs for 500+ people working at small-to-mid-size merchant businesses and other businesses that provide high-quality, fresh produce to over 1,000 San Francisco restaurants and food purveyors and provide a consistent, reliable market for 350+ growers across 38 California counties.
The SF Market seeks mission-aligned philanthropic, government, and private financing to support our expanding programs and ongoing property improvements.

FOOD RECOVERY & SUSTAINABILITY
Through the Food Recovery Program, The SF Market rescues fresh surplus, culturally diverse produce that would otherwise be diverted to the landfill. Thanks to our merchants and on-site logistics capacity, this rescued food moves seamlessly to our network of community-based partners, who distribute it to households across the region experiencing food insecurity.
Since its launch in 2016, The SF Market Food Recovery Program has scaled to recover more than 10 million pounds of food, translating to over 8.4 million meals. With an integrated, collaborative approach, the program advances food security, reduces waste, and lowers disposal costs for family-owned merchant businesses — while remaining highly cost-effective. In 2026, we project recovering 1.25 million pounds of produce.
